If you drop weight too fast, you aren’t simply dropping fat, you are also losing muscle – though this might not sound like a big deal to someone who is willing to do what it takes to get weight off fast, keep in mind that the heart is a muscle as well.

For truly extreme fast weight loss, there is surgery. Bariatric surgeries, such as gastric banding (stomach stapling) and gastric bypass are well known options. They are normally only done on obese persons, with medical reason for getting the surgery done. Though you lose weight fast, there are lifestyle changes that need to be made to live a healthy life. Also, other surgeries may need to be done after having weight loss surgery because anytime you lose a lot of weight rapidly you can and will have loose, hanging skin that will need to be removed for cosmetic and health reasons.


Another option for losing weight fast is to add circuit training, including resistance training. Doing this helps with fat loss.


Safe and healthy weight loss is losing 1-2 lbs a week. Anything other than that (unless you are severely obese) is unhealthy and is likely just water weight and muscle loss. This kind of unhealthy weight loss will all be regained very quickly. This would be fine if you needed to lose a few pounds fast for an upcoming event, but it’s never for the long term.


There are cleanses which help to lose a lot of weight fast. They can be short term or longer term. With this option you do not generally eat solid foods; you drink a special mix only, 3-5 times a day. IT’s severely restrictive and hard to follow. People report excellent results, but this is to be expected when you are drastically cutting calories and nutrients your body requires to function.


Some more mainstream diet and exercise plans promote a ‘quick start’, advertising that you can lose 10lbs in 3 days or the like. This is a prelude to the diet plan and to get you motivated. The quick starts should never be used for long term, but can safely be used for up to 3 days to lose some weight quickly.

Sleep plays a big factor in weight loss. You body needs adequate rest to work properly, so get at least 8 hours per night, trying to get to sleep at the same times each night.
