What is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)? An Overview

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Causes

CFS has no specific cause, but it has been linked to infections that affect our immune and defense mechanisms. Some research links the condition to the bacterium chlamydia pneumoniae, whilst, other studies associate it with Epstein-Barr virus, which causes mononucleosis. Chronic fatigue syndrome has also been linked to bronchitis, candidiasis, and diarrhea.

Furthermore, adrenal insufficiency, cancer, AIDS, kidney disorders, liver disorders, thyroid irregularities, and stress-triggered ailments are significant causes.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Symptoms

  • Fatigue: the principal symptom of CFS is fatigue and weakness. More often than not, the fatigue starts due to an infection and tends to continue even after the infection has been cured. Over a period of time, the individual gets so weary; he can not even perform the basic daily activities.
  • Cognition gets affected: short term memory of the individual gets affected. People often complain of not being able to recall certain words in normal speech. Also the concentration and attention span diminish.
  • Depression: melancholia and depression sets in eventually.
  • Other symptoms: headaches, body ache, muscle cramps, and fever, are other frequently seen features.

Foods to Fight Fatigue

The following food prescriptions help relieve physical stress and fatigue. They battle exhaustion and weariness and promote vitality and vigor; almost instantaneously.

  • Cinnamon: Cinnamon is a tonic for your entire system. It has wonderful warming; strengthening and stimulating properties dispel infections, GI derangements and deficiency of vital energy. The spice acts effectively on the gastric system and fights colic, pains, diarrhea and flatulence. The essential oil of cinnamon is one of the very best antiseptics. The oil relieves muscle pain, joint pains and headaches.Add 1 teaspoon of the powdered spice to boiling water. Let it simmer. Consume this tea once daily.
  • Barley: Barley has the reputation of being a strengthening nerve tonic, relieving stress and fatigue. In fact, physicians of ancient Greece used barley to enhance vigor and vitality. The grain promotes digestion, boosts appetite, improves the functioning of the liver and is an excellent remedy for GI upsets. Boil 1 spoon of barley in 1 liter of water for about 20 minutes. Rose combats infections of the body and helps re-establish the normal bacterial population after anti-biotics. Also, the flower has calming and uplifting effect on the nervous system and banishes depression. Make an infusion using rose petals and leaves; it is an excellent tonic, to be taken everyday.

Very useful tips. I am going to try these remedies. I have tried the drink with rose water and it helps managing palpitation and related symptoms. For fatigue alongwith low blood pressure raw tea (without milk) along with a teaspoon of honey is really effective.
