Contraindications of *Tums*

Tums is a name brand for an over the counter antacid. The function of Tums and other antacids is to reduce the amount of acids in the stomach in order to reduce the chance of heartburn from adverse physiological reactions to something ingested.

Adminstering Tums

• Chewable: Chew well, until totally dissolved before swallowing.
• Liquid: Shake well before taking to ensure proper measure of the active ingredient
• Do not take more than the package suggested recommendations.
• Do not take the maximum recommended for more than two weeks.

Allergic reactions

There is very little risk of an allergy to Tums, however some very sensitive individuals should be aware of the following allergic reactions to antacids.

• Rash
• Itching or swelling of the face, mouth, or throat
• Severe dizzy feelings
• Labored breathing

Side effects
